No Water On The Board
There are excellent DJ performers out there. I think of people like Daedelus, who are performers that commit to playing with MIDI in a unique way. I wanted to achieve something absurdist, but simultaneously epic : something that if someone saw it in a club, it would blow their mind. From that comes the idea of "No Water On The Board". Two water resistors on an Arduino going into Max for Live. One glass controls the volume of the drums, and if there isn't enough water it does a fade out with echo. The other controls the amount of visual effects made with Jitter.
The biggest challenge of this project is using all the programs simultaneously. On one hand, the compatibility between Arduino and Max for Live is incredible, something I did not expect, and it opens up a lot of possibilities for production and live arrangements. Practicing it also took a ridiculous amount of hours, so I stayed hydrated and studied carefully how to make the changes. I also relied on an Ableton rack and a Novation Launch Control to trigger the song stems, and the knobs were used to control a rack based on a Roland SP404.
